From Falmouth To Wembley: Liverpool Win Merseyside Semi-Final

Well, as it's FA Cup Final day it's time to catch up with my look at the 2011-12 FA Cup competition with the match summary from the FA Cup Semi Final between Liverpool and Everton.

Those of you who have been following this from the start will know that back in the Summer of 2011 I started to follow this season's FA Cup with Falmouth Town.

As each round has progressed the FA Cup baton been passed as follows during this season's competition:

Falmouth Town AFC
Bodmin Town
Godalming Town
Maidenhead United
Aldershot Town
Sheffield Wednesday
Blackpool
Everton
Liverpool

The simple notion here is that eventually one club will get to Wembley and you'll be able to look right back to the start of the FA Cup Competition to see where it all started.

When I say 'get to Wembley' I really mean 'get to the FA Cup Final at Wembley'. Of course the winners of the Quarter Finals get to play their Semi-Finals at Wembley too, but it's the Final I'm referring to in the "Falmouth to Wembley" title.

You can see links to the match reports from the previous rounds at the end of this article.

Everton's defender Sylvain Distin said on Twitter after the game: "I cost my team-mates, the staff, the club and the fans a place in FA Cup final. Nothing more to say but sorry all of you."

Liverpool's manager Kenny Dalglish said after the game: "There are no scapegoats for anything that has gone wrong. There is only a vision on how we are going to go forward. To go forward and be successful, sometimes you need to get battered along the way. We have got to be strong enough to stand up to that. If it's me who is getting dog's abuse then good, because it takes the pressure off the players. I have been there before and I suppose I will be there again at some stage. I have never said at any given time that we are the finished article and we still won't say that right now. But what we will do is that every bit of knowledge we have got and every bit of commitment will all go into getting the football club moving in the right direction. I think this football club is a fantastic example to anyone else who wants to have a football club. When there is a wee bit of mud flying about, we stick together for each other. That's the football club that I used to know and it's the football club I am getting back to knowing."
